Preparation:

  • The process begins by creating a paste from shrimp or prawn meat, water, and seasonings.
  • Tapioca or potato starch is then added to the paste, turning it into a thick and sticky dough.

Cooking:

The dough is formed into small pieces, often in the shape of chips or small rounds. These pieces are left out to dry, and once dried, they are ready for cooking.

To cook prawn crackers, they are deep-fried in hot oil. They puff out, becoming light and crisp in a matter of seconds as soon as they’ve struck the heating oil. It’s a delicious, crunchy, and airy snack.

Transfer the shrimp paste to a large mixing bowl. Gradually add the tapioca starch (or potato starch) while stirring. Keep mixing until it becomes a thick and sticky dough.

Step 4 – Roll the Dough:

Now comes the fun part! Take small pieces of the dough and roll them into small balls or even tiny pancakes. These will be your prawn crackers.
